Benjamin Wyatt joins the Wyatt Family

Thursday Nov 11th at 1:19pm CST, Benjamin Michael Wyatt joined our clan. Weighing in at 9lbs 7oz, he is already a strapping lad. Mom and new son are both doing very well. Dad is enjoying the time with the family and readjusting to no sleep. Big brother Max is adjusting as good as any 2.5 year old could to sharing the spotlight with a baby brother.

Big thanks to all of my coworkers and industry friends that have asked about Ben's arrival. Oh, yes we DID realize that his initials are BMW.

Here is a picture of Ben:

A Personal Project

We are expecting the arrival of my second son tomorrow about 12:30CT (scheduled). I'm taking a few days to get to know my new son and enjoy the family. I'll be blogging again within a few days.

Critical Priorities

I know that I'm overdue for writing up my take on Time and Materials projects but I been busy with other priorities, especially spending some time with my son Max.

This photo was taken during our brief 4 day vacation to Chicago during the summer. His expression while enjoying two-fisted chicken nugget gourmet dinner on our cruise around Chicago's skyline captures a lot of his personality. We are expecting out second child in about 3 weeks and I'm taking extra time now to spend with Max as I realize that he will be going through almost as much change as mom and dad in the very near future. With the weather in Austin simply perfect this weekend, we had many hours of fun outside.

Thanks for your patience while I enjoy the home front. If you've been burning the candle at both ends with a blow torch, there are few better ways to recharge the batteries than to spend quality time with your family and friends.

Taxi Cab Confessions of a Broadband Junkie

Though I've grown up with information technology starting with a TRS-80 Model 1 with 4K of RAM and a cassette tape player for persistent storage, I continue to be surprised and amazed at how technology changes our lives. I'm writing this entry from a taxi cab heading from JFK into Manhattan and am fully connected to the net through a Treo 700p (not a 700w!) with a broadband connection. This type of anytime / anywhere connectivity reinforces the continuing blur between work life and personal life. While many pundits are dismayed at the seeming evaporation of down time, I believe that the real issue is the need to take personal responsibility for setting the boundaries between work and non-work time. It is my choice to be connected and writing this entry rather than taking a short nap or just watching the cars go by. I have the option of whether or not to connect and I have the responsibility to chose whether or not being connected at this moment in time is good or bad.
