Invitation to Glassfish EA Localization Program

Glassfish v3 is scheduled to be released in Sept. 2009. To help get an early access (EA) of this new product in different languages, Glassfish Globalization (G11n) team plans the community project to localize the Glassfish EA program. We invite everyone who is interested in Glassfish localization to join us in this effort.

The project instruction and related information for community participation, translation and testing are provided on the Glassfish G11n wiki page Community members can go through the General Information and How to Get Started first, then review the process in project 1 (v3 EA software translation) and project 2 (Testing).

We have designed an online translation tool called CTI which leverages past GlassFish translations (huge amount!). This new tool is very helpful and easy to use in translation. We have also created test cases and provided bug fixing information to assist your testing. We welcome all to participate in this exciting project and make your contribution to Glassfish v3 program.

Localized products in Glassfish Portfolio

In the recent Glassfish Portfolio release, you will find the following localized products:
- Sun GlassFish Enterprise Server 2.1
- Sun GlassFish Communication Server 1.5
- Sun GlassFish Performance Advisor

The community builds for Sun GlassFish Enterprise Server 2.1 can be downloaded from Glassfish download site
The community builds for Sun GlassFish Communication Server 1.5 are available at: Sailfin java.net web site

We are currently working on another Glassfish Add-On component: Performance Monitor. The project can be finished within 30 days after English Performance Monitor is released.

Sun GlassFish Enterprise Server 2.1 ML builds available for testing

Glassfish Globalization team has completed the translation in 7 languages for Sun GlassFish Enterprise Server 2.1 and the multi-lingual (ML) builds are now available for testing. The 7 supported languages are: French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean. The ML builds can be found at the SGES 2.1 nightly build location

We encourage everyone who is interested in the localized GlassFish product to test the ML version to help us improve the localization quality. Here are two websites FishCat program and L10n Testing Community where you can reference some useful information about how to join Java.net, how to participate in the Testing Program, how to file bugs and how to communicate, etc.

Current ML builds are development builds. We expect to have RC build in about a week's time and testing can continue with the RC build till end of this month.

GlassFish Enterprise Server v3 Prelude Multilingual (ML) version is released today

GlassFish Enterprise Server v3 Prelude is lightweight Web 2.0 development and deployment platform. It boasts cool new features and has an Update Center that provides additional components to the users. GlassFish Localization team has completed the final QA process and the ML bits are live today. The multilingual support includes: French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean.

The ML community distribution is now available from GlassFish download site
The commercially supported version of Sun GlassFish Enterprise Server v3 Prelude ML version can be obtained from Sun's download center. It can also be downloaded from Sun Java EE download site. From the Java EE site, the Chinese and Japanese version of the newly released Java SDK 5 Update 6 is available there.

We encourage community to join our localization efforts in making more open sourced ML products for the international markets. Globalization team contributes to the Glassfish v3 Prelude Release

I am so glad to see GlassFish v3 Prelude English release after much hard work by many including various communities. Congratulations to the GF team! We, localization team have also actively participated in this efforts, apart from our own plan to localize GlassFish v3 Prelude in the 7 languages we support. The multi-lingual version of GlassFish v3 Prelude will be ready about 2 weeks after the English version.

Here is a briefly summary to show our involvement:
* GlassFish Localization Community Contribution
o GF FAQ translation (zh, ja, ru, it)
o Other web content translations
o GF Aquarium translation (ja, zh, ru, ko, es)
o GF FishCat QA program
o Kana from Japan won GAP contribution award with her contribution to GF wiki translation project

Prepared to Localize GlassFish v3 Prelude

We are getting prepared to localize GlassFish v3 Prelude. The language scope will be the same 7 languages as supported in GlassFish v2. The targeted release date is end of October 2008.

There are new changes for GlassFish v3 structure. It is open and modularized with the emphasis on scalability and simplicity. It will use OSGi bundles with IPS packages that includes l10n packages. The IPS packages can be distributed in different ways, such as installer and update center. We are working with engineering team to build the structure so that we can deliver l10n files in the open source workspace to have the l10n packages built for distribution.

Consider expanding locale support for glassfish

As glassfish is gaining momentum, the need for more language support may get stronger from such countries like Brazil. The number of developers is growing and many of them may be interested in Sun's localized products. Therefore, we would like to take a good look at the users' needs for glassfish localization there. When market conditions are positive, we could consider adding Brazilian Portuguese support in the future glassfish release. Current Glassfish has 7 languages: Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, French, German and Spanish.

Glassfish FAQ in Japanese

If you visit the glassfish user FAQ recently, you will notice that there is a Japanese version available, linked from the glassfish English FAQ page.

This is the result of the Japanese glassfish community contribution. They will keep the momentum going to translate the developer FAQ This definitely will help the glassfish users in Japan. Great work by them and many thanks to them. Chinese and Spanish users are working on the user FAQ translation as well.

As there are glassfish users across the globe, some would like to read the FAQ and use glassfish in their own languages. Therefore, there is a need for translation and localization to help those users. Anyone who is interested in contributing to the translation of glassfish, are very welcome to join the alias: g11n@glassfish.dev.java.net or docs@glassfish.dev.java.net and visit the Translation Guide page for translation instructions.

GlassFish v2 UR2 Multi-Lingual (ML) version is released

GlassFish v2 UR2 ML is released. This update release provides new improvements and bug fixes of the previous release. The language support is the same 7 languages: Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, French, German and Spanish. The ML binary can be downloaded from GlassFish Download Page. The ML jars are placed right below the English ones for each platform.

We have also released the ML versions of the Sun Java System Application Server 9.1 UR2 and Java EE 5 SDK U5 and Java Application Platform U5. You can get them from the SDK Download Page

The localized main page has been localized for the same 7 languages. The Aquarium where you find news and events about GlassFish is translated into 5 languages. You can visit the Aquarium in your language to stay current with GlassFish.

Glassfish Translated Files Are in Open Source Workplace

Glassfish engineering and G11n teams have worked together in moving the translated files to Glassfish open source workspace. The task is now completed and a l10n module is created as a repository for Glassfish translation on java.net, under cvs root /publish/glassfish/. From now on, Glassfish translated files can be shared with community. At the same time, community members can also contribute their translation to Glassfish releases.

With the l10n module in open source, community can build l10n Glassfish bits by themselves. G11n team will provide detailed instructions soon on how to obtain the source files for translation, integration and how to build l10n bits. Please check out Glassfish Localization Instruction wiki site.

The Multi-Lingual GlassFish v2 UR1 Is Released

The multi-lingual (ML) version of the GlassFish v2 UR1is released today. It supports 7 languages: Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, French, German and Spanish. You can download it from GlassFish Download Page The ML binary is placed right below the English binary for each platform and labeled with (Multilingual).

We have localized some of the web content into those 7 languages, but there are more to be translated to benefit the community across the world. We welcome community members to join us in the localization efforts. If you are interested, please subscribe to this community alias: g11n@glassfish.dev.java.net and visit the Translation Guide page for instructions. You can also send your comments and suggestions by using this alias.

Glassfish v2 Multi-Language Version Is Released

The multi-language (ML) version of Glassfish v2 has been released. It supports 7 languages: Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, French, German and Spanish. They are now donwloadable from the Glassfish website: https://glassfish.dev.java.net/ Some of the Glassfish web pages are translated into the supported languages. You can locate the language buttons on Glassfish main page and read the content in the targeted languages.

We hope to get more web content translated in the near future. If you are interested in getting involved in localizing Glassfish, the web content or the product itself, we warmly welcome you to join our globalization community by subscribing to this email alias: g11n@glassfish.dev.java.net

Sun Tech Days in China and Japan

Sun will host Sun Tech Days in China and Japan. This is a good opportunity for local developers to learn about Glassfish and other new software development and technology Sun offers. The events will be in the following cities:

GlassFish Localization

My work at Sun focuses on software product localization. I am a localization program manager, used to be involved in developer tools projects a lot. Recently, I have started to work on JES projects. One of them is Glassfish - a nice code name. I began my effort by looking at the history of this project.

GlassFish development was started back in 2005 as an open sourced application server project supporting Java EE platform. The first GlassFish product, GlassFish v.1 was released in May 2006, and GlassFish v.2 has just been released recently. The first release is English only. Now I am excited to have the opportunity to join my team in an effort to get GlassFish v.2 localized into 7 languages for the open source community.
