Friday October 12, 2007 Updated Cool Stack 1.1.1 deliverables in Web Stack wiki
When I first posted the Cool Stack 1.1.1 deliverables on the Web Stack wiki, I knew it wasn't quite complete. Thanks to some info and updates from Basant Kukreja (link not supplied, as he is a non-blogging heathen, as John Clingan would say), who has dutifully been working on the Cool Stack 1.1.1 updates, I've been able to update it.
We'd love any feedback. We've gotten some on the Cool Stack forums already. Please have a look over here and post any feedback to either the Web Stack mailing list or the Cool Stack forum.

I was wondering when coolstack and webstack will be merged into one project. We're currently missing the apache mod_ldap, mod_authnz_ldap and proxy modules in all Sun apache distributions. Because of this, we have to compile our own apache distribution and hope to see a complete solution from Sun, soon.

I'll get that in there as an RFE. Are you using apxs or the like to build those modules? (maybe they're not apxs compatible-- I don't know) I
bring that up because we're definitely planning to be sure apxs is in there and works correctly with zones.
We can obviously take contributions on the Cool Stack 1.1.1 source (same for Web Stack, which uses the SFW consolidation) if you'd like to contribute.
Other than that, we do plan to have a very complete stack; we just need to approach it in steps.
As far as merging of Cool Stack and Web Stack are concerned, the general thought is that Web Stack (as part of SFW in OpenSolaris) will build up its way to be functionally complete with respect to what we currently have in Cool Stack. It will leverage everything learned when building Cool Stack too. This takes a bit more thought and effort than just building packages for Solaris, so it may take some time to get it all in there. After we hit that level of being feature complete, Solaris Nevada (and Indiana) builds will have this Web Stack.
So generally speaking, the two will 'merge' once we've got Web Stack feature complete with respect to what is in Cool Stack today. The build process will be different and paths will be different, but integration with Solaris should be excellent.

Great to hear this. If it's possible, we're using apxs to to add other external apache modules (e.g. mod_goip) to the stack. What could be the best way for me and my team, to contribute to the coolstack and webstack project? Currently we're building our own stack for Solaris 10 (we're using Solaris 10 FCS and up to U4 on X86 and Sparc).
