Now, we've seen a bunch of these. The message is clear, very clear. We want to reach out to our cherished customers and ISVs and educate them with our latest advancements and innovations. We are taking the effort within our powers to change the world in means possible. We are striving to destroy that shroud that curtains and shadows our advancements from their adoption and implementation.
We've done it before and shall be doing it again. Yesterday, I and Thomas Bastian, a Staff Engineer at Sun presented our Code Camp on "Optimal Resource Utilization, Zones (Solaris Containers a.k.a Virtualization) and Zfs. The turnout rate was 60%. 14 of the registered 21 ISVs showed up and we spend and entire day exploring these concepts and gaining more foothold in our technology. The response was indeed, AWESOME! They practially bombarded us with questions and even provided us an excellent feedback on what could be a nice feature that could attract a broader customer base for Sun. Its really nice to see such constructive criticisms as well as feedback. Everyone in the room was much experienced in using Solaris and were well aware of the fact that Solaris is the most advanced platform on earth as on date. The original game plan was that I speak about Projects, Tasks, Resource management and Zones while Thomas delivers his coupe de grace with his presentation on Zfs. We expected to be done by 16:00 hrs or earlier.
In the course of the discussion, several topics came up and I had to speak from morning 9:00 hrs till 15:00 hrs on Zones and Resource management. Apparently, this topic is really hot. What made them more interested in these topics is that they saw that most of these tools could be used without needing a reboot and that they could use these tool on running processes and applications. Oracle seemed to be the main topic of discussion and they saw that the Oracle processes could be well administered using the Resource Management suite that Solaris has to offer. Zones drove them nuts with the self-contained environment, security with the possibility of providing a fine-grained networking possibility.
We were indeed oblivious to the time pass by and finally, Thomas delivered his more hands-on exercise on Zfs, which made their interest soar high and again they were excited at the ease of administering filesystems under Solaris. I'm glad that I'm working on these Codecamps and that I learn from these guys and from their experience as much as they do from me and my energy, motivation and drive to reach them out.
