SAP on Xen
Over the past few weeks, we were working on studying the performance of Xen 3.1 under Linux x64 on Sun hardware (X4600 M2 server). The software used for the test was the SAP Linux Certification Suite (SLCS). The original draft of the whitepaper is now available. The final version shall be made available soon, but please do get in touch, should you have an overview of our results and observations. I'd like to thank several people who worked on this project to its completion. I'd like to especially thank my colleagues at Sun, who worked as hard as I did in driving this project to its completion.
Hans-Juergen Denecke & Ulrich Conrad:
Hans & Uli solved several issues concerning the storage. Storage was the toughest nut to crack and getting it to work under Linux was a mammoth undertaking. Without Hans, I guess I'd be still doing the storage configuration. Thanks a lot guys.
Juergen Zimmermann :
Juergen, as the technical lead, foresaw several issues and addressed them. He was the one who did the original machine setup and configuration.
Christoph Brune :
I and Christoph faced several organizational and technical issues together. Thiemo Engelke, my counterpart from AMD, fell sick in the middle of the project and we are still dealing with it. We wish Thiemo a speedy recovery.
Joachim Wolf:
Joachim was the first guy to review my paper and he trapped several typos and provided us with suggestions.
Thomas Bastian & Stefan Schneider :
Though Thomas and Stefan weren't directly involved in the project, they provided me several ideas. Thomas spotted and fixed the LAN problem in the BIOS. Without this, we'd have spent a few weeks looking things at the wrong places.
I'd also like to thank my colleagues from AMD : Thiemo Engelke & Erika Mayer, my colleagues from SAP : Manfred Stein and Hannes Kuehnemund and the SuSE team : Joachim Dequera.
