"Enjoy Java! Change the World!"

On Feb 16th of 2008, I had a chance to do a key note speech at 9th JCO Conference in Seoul, Korea. JCO is an acronym for JavaCommunity.org

It is a consolidated community of all Java related independent communities in Korea. JCO is holding its annual Java developer day usually in February time frame.

It was its 9th annual conference in Korea and I was astonished by the number of young developers packed in the hall. It boasted the record number of registrations of about 6000 developers. They showed up to hear lastest development technologies and network with peer developers.

I could clearly feel the energy and passion of developers at the conference. I could see the bright future of software in Korea. In line with my excitement here, in my keynote speech, I asked them to go beyond being a programmer and to become a contributor and innovator in this fast changing world of web 2.0 world where imagination is the only inhibitor.

The other observation I see from the title of session tracks is the emergence of very high level API. There was a track called "Naver OpenAPI and open source". Naver is the Google equivalent in Korea and I'm excited to hear that Naver is opening is services API for developers to build high value services on top of its native Naver services. It's clearly way to go for having a richer set of services down the road.

I really like the theme of the event "Enjoy Java! Change the World!"
