Gartner Says Worldwide External Controller-Based Disk Storage Market Grew 18.8 Percent in Second Quarter of 2008

— Worldwide external controller-based (ECB) disk storage revenue
totaled $4.5 billion in the second quarter of 2008, an 18.8 percent
increase over the same period in 2007, according to Gartner, Inc.

Sun Microsystems showed the highest growth year-over-year at 34.7
percent mainly due to a large increase in the company’s Sun StorageTek
2000, 6000 and 9000 series revenue. NetApp had the next highest growth
with 22.9 percent. Also recording double digit growth were Dell with
18.3 percent, Hitachi Data Systems at 18.1 percent, EMC at 16.0
percent, and IBM with a growth of 14.9 percent.
