An Open Invitation to Portal vendors - Join the PRP project
A JSR 168 portlet is a standards based plugin to a Portal Server.
Portal Vendors typically maintain a catalog of portlets in online repositories (like this and this).
What if a developer using Portal X can, on the fly, download a portlet from the catalog of Portal Y ?
Sounds interesting ? That is what the Portlet Repository Protocol project is trying to achieve.
With the Portlet Repository Protocol project, we are trying to define a common Web Service that can be used to front-end any portlet repository. Any portal that can talk this Web Service will be free to the leverage the service provided by any of the online portlet repositories.
This effort is currently endorsed by Sun and JBoss, and we welcome any other interested party to join us. For more details, check out the Portlet Repository Protocol page and join the discuss@prp.dev.java.net mailing list.

Portlets for online assessments
Now this is an interesting trend : Questionmark Announces Support for JSR 168.
As the Portlet spec matures, we ought to find a lot more application vendors exposing standard JSR 168/ JSR 286 interfaces to their applications.

Kon-nichi wa , Open Source Portlet Repository now in Japanese
Have been very busy of late (hence the one post /month as opposed to
twice a day blogging
) and for good reason. A whole lot of things are happening
in Sun portal land.
If you missed the action, we have opensourced the Portlet Container and WSRP implementation. Both these projects come under the umbrella Open Source Portal project.
Then of course, something I'm closely involved in: The Open Source Portlet Repository Project. Check it out. Dean, my fellow crusader on this project, has given it a cool new look and feel.
And yesterday we launched the Japanese face of the Portlet Repository . Many thanks to Shinsuke for helping with this. You rock man !!
