Interportlet Communication using Creator 2

If you are using Sun Portal 7, you can now create portlets that utilize the Interportlet Communication feature using the Sun Java Studio Creator 2.

Is IPC done here in a proprietary way or are they using a generic JSR-168 method like PortletSession?
