Frustrated by your PHP configuration?

There is now an alternative to setting up your own PHP environment. You can download a server-only OpenSolaris web stack and run it in
a virtual machine. XDebug, the PHP engine, Apache, and MySQL are preconfigured on the web stack. You can work on your PHP project in NetBeans IDE and use the FTP feature to deploy your PHP on the OpenSolaris web stack.
Follow these steps to use the OpenSolaris web stack:
- Download the OpenSolaris web stack image and create a virtual machine for it.
- Configure the network connection on the virtual machine.
- Configure port forwarding.
- Create an FTP connection in NetBeans for the web stack on the virtual machine.

I think all this can be avoided in NetBeans came witha built-in php server that had xdebug preconfigured.
It could support the latest version of PHP and provide options for developers to configure their own version.

I think that is a whole lot easier said than done Raymond.
Nevertheless, the BitNami stacks might be something to look at...

I couldn't make it work. My virtual machine just doesn't start. And I'm not in the mood to look for the problem. I think we need a new version of xdebug for windows and not a new virtual machine.

Jeffrey, great for posting this. Up to now I am using XAMPP on my MAC. I am also struggling to activate xdebug, so I like to take this path.
Could anyone give me a hint how I configure the portforwarding on my MAC with OSX.

Jeffrey, I found the answer. (use the CLI VBoxManage) RTFM.
Q:
whats the admin password of the OSOL. I need to change the Keyboard to a international kb?
