Skiing is an expensive sport. We plan to introduce our 3 year old to skiing this Sunday. They don't do group lessons for under 4's so we are doing a parent/child private lesson.

Private ski lessons - $75
Ski Gear Rentals for me and kid - $55
Ski lift ticket for me - $30
Crying from constant falling and being cold - Priceless

BTW - that last bit will be me.

We were coming home from dinner the other night. My husband was driving. I was sitting next to my kid in the back seat. "Mom, turn on the light for me." "No, it will distract Daddy and he needs to concentrate." "Ok." "Mom." "Hmm?" "What's that? (Point out the window.)" "I don't know, Mui, I don't know what you are pointing at." "That!" "I still don't know what you are pointing at." "If you turn on the light, then you can see what I point at."

Was I this big a pain at 3?

I have decided to bring my kid back to the La Petite day care. It's not that the Chinese day care was no good, just that there were no kids her age. There are 1 17mon and 2 15mon old's. And since there are no peers for her, she is not willing to sit down for lessons.

So I called La Petite to check if they had space. And I discussed with my 3 year old her going back to La Petite. She is amenable as long as she gets to call her current teacher every once in a while. We'll start back up next week.

My kid and I came across the Jim Carrey version of the Grinch Who Stole Christmas and my kid was enthralled. She loves that Jim Carrey and the production, in general, is so over the top. She has watched it every day since the weekend. And she demands that we watch it with her. I think I can recite all the lines by now.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

These 4 weeks have been tough on my kid. She and I have been in CA since the Sunday after Thanksgiving. She has been staying with my mom and dad while I have been at work. The first 3 weeks, I was staying in hotels and seeing her only during the weekends. This week, I am staying with my mom and dad, but still only see her in the evenings (when I don't have to work late.)

I feel awful. She is getting a lot of PoPo and GungGung time. But she misses her routine. She misses her school, her cat, her dog, her fish, her bed, her toys. This week, I have been getting a call every morning because she wakes to find that I have already left for work and starts to cry.

Only two more days. Then the holidays. Then home. Back to our routine. Back to our beds. Back to our pets and plants.

My sister's boyfriend partied at Heath Ledger's house on Sat night. He is in a band with a guy who is the drummer for a band Heath Ledger's label wants to sign. That makes me like 4 degrees separated from Heath Ledger. Too bad, Heath Ledger wasn't actually there, then it would be 3 degrees.

I was at Target last weekend. 'Nuff said.
I asked my kid who was a pretty girl. "Me." Is YeeYee (my sisters) pretty? Yes. Is mommy pretty? Yes. Is Po Po (my mom) pretty? No. Why not? Because she lo (old). (I told her not to tell Po Po.)
I have been training my kid since birth to love Hello Kitty. Lately, she has preferred Disney Princesses. I asked her why, because her friends like them? Yes. Then she tells me that I love Hello Kitty, but she loves Princesses.

I love seeing the social interaction among preschoolers. On Saturday, my daughter invited the 5 year old neighbor girl to a playdate. It started with riding trike/bikes on our street. My daughter was on her trike and the 5 year old was on her bike. My daughter wanted to ride her friend's bike, but the little girl said that my daughter was too little. "I know it's hard being little. When you become bigger, then you can ride a bicycle." My daughter took it in stride. She understood that a 5 year old was alpha to a 3 year old.

Then the playdate moved to our house. Th dynamic then changed. Since it was her house, my daughter dictated what they were going to play with and when. The 5 year old didn't like it. She tried to resist, but my daughter held firm and the 5 year old relented. With the environment change, the pack structure changed. My daughter was now alpha.

My daughter's new favorite phrase is "holy crap". For example: "I went to the bathroom, but I have my underwear on and my pants on. Holy crap!" or "Her stupid. Holy crap!"

I suppose I should count my blessings that she has not picked up worse. But I really need to watch my language.

I was asking my husband last night to get our kid ready for bed so I could make it to the m-a-l-l before it closed. "I want to go!" "Go where, Mui?" "To the m-o-a-l." "What's that?" "The m-a-a-l." "Yeah, but what is that?" "Target."

I think I bring this kid shopping too much.

Who would have thought that I would be attached to something in Utah, as I have been wanted to return to CA since we moved here. It's my daughter's last day at her current daycare. We are moving her to one that just opened up. It's run by these two chinese ladies and their lessons are in Mandarin and English. It's been a huge concern for me that my daughter lose her chinese roots as I am the only person who speaks to her in Chinese as my family is in CA.

I dropped off my daughter and 2 dozen cupcakes at the daycare this morning. As I was leaving to return to work, some teachers were saying goodbye (some get off work before I will be there again to pick up my daughter.) And it struck me, that these people helped me raise my child. She has been at that daycare since she was 7 months old, not walking, not talking. They have been a family of sorts for me in Utah. I will miss them a lot. I had to get out of there before I started bawling.

I exchanged contact info with one mom there. Her daughter, Lanie, and my daughter are best friends. Every morning when they see each other, they run to each other and hug. I will be bringing them to the Children's Museum this Sunday to see the new robot exhibit. I will have to make sure that we keep up with the playdates.

We were rained out for Game 3. Well, really, we were snowed out. Last night we had a 6:15pm game. My kid was not playing per usual. She only runs onto the field to get an airplane ride from Dad who was coaching. Note to self: do not sign her up for sports until she's at least 4. The 4 year olds were great. They were on the field the whole time and kicking goals, well really dribbling goals. They would try to dribble the ball into the goal around the goalee rather than kicking it in. But regardless of time on the field, all kids love the fruit at half time and the treat at the end of the game. Although, some kids try to gets treats from their own team and the opposing team
