Yeah! I got tagged. Ok, 5 things people don't know about me:

1. My first job out of college was as an engineer at a steel mill in Pitsburgh, CA. I redesigned the mechanism that detects the level of a pool of molten zinc. The original method used a buoy, but the zinc would solidify on it, causing the buoy to be heavier and give false readings. I ended up recommending a modification that heated the buoy up to 400 degrees, give or take, so the zinc would melt off it periodically. All the other sensors, optical, etc, I researched would not have survived in that environment.

2. I worked as a customer service rep for BofA, one of the jobs that put me through college. It's where I got my customer focus bug. Nothing does that better than working with other people on their finances.

3. I worked at a Pizza Hut for 3 weeks in high school. I hated that job. The smell of cheese and sauce permeates your pores. I couldn't eat pizza for a year after that. The manager offered me more money to stay, but she couldn't pay me enough.

4. I started at Sun as an intern. Initially, I didn't get the job because I had no background in marketing. I was a mechanical engineer working on an MBA. But when the other candidate fell through, they immediately thought of me. Apparently, my thank-you-for-your-time note caught their attention because I asked the hiring manager for feedback on why I didn't get the job and what I should work on.

5. I started cooking chinese food regularly only after we moved to Utah from the Bay Area. I guess it is my way of keeping rooted in my heritage, since I can't do that through my family.
