OpenSolaris supports SPARC
Read the great news about build 106 in Dave Miner's blog. Some people say SPARC should have been supported from the beginning but given limited resources it was reasonable to focus on one platform. Now, both x86/x64 and SPARC are supported, so future releases of OpenSolaris will support both of these platforms.
Wasn't it just a matter of taking the SPARC code from Solaris and putting it into OpenSolaris? Or am I missing something more subtle?

Awesome! Now I just need an affordable UltraSPARC box to run it on...where's that T3120? ;-)

I wish it was as simple as that. What's been delivered is support for phat pkgs i.e a unified repo for sparc and x86 and changes to the distro constructor and AI to support sparc. While the changes in DC and AI were not extensive, they were tricky. IPS also provides "facets" and "variants".
