University Podcasts

I'm excited! I just finished listening to Anxious Times: Seeing Beyond a World of Perpetual Threats, a 2 hour podcast courtesy of Stanford University, available at http://itunes.stanford.edu. This was a panel of luminaries such as George P. Shultz, William J. Perry, John Hennessey and others - hosted by Ted Koppel. In other words it was incredibly bright, articulate people talking about the tough issues in the world today.

Yesterday I listened to Web 2.0, courtesy of Podcasts at Penn State. It was fascinating hearing how Web 2.0 is presented by an engaging professor to a room full of college students.

If you spend time in the car, on the train, at the gym, or even walking the dog I heartily recommend taking advantage of these wonderful resources. I've been hearing for years about college courses being available on line, but this seems to be an opportunity to cherry pick and consume the very best of. There is an excellent index at Going Public: iTunes U.

Having spent most of my college days  trying to optimize my grades to effort spent ratio, and attempting to stay awake in (what was for me) really dry engineering courses, this is a particular treat. I can't wait until tomorrow to partake in the next podcast on the list of staff favorites from Stanford.

Glad you enjoyed the podcast! There are tons of great resources sitting out on the web or in iTunes U that are just dying to see the light of day. Just a year or so ago all this content would have been locked behind authentication in a course management system. The fact that higher education is not only producing this content, but making it openly available is a great move forward. Again, thrilled you found the lecture interesting ... I know I have a blast with that one in class. The kids sort of stare at me for the first few minutes and then I start to see the light bulbs going on. The ah-ha moment with students is great! As an aside, I enjoyed discovering your blog!

I appreciate the link to my blog but let me say that folks should look at the updated list of iTunes U school (link above) though I have to admit that the wiki for this that James Welsh created at http://itunesu.pbwiki.com/ is probably a better solution until Apple sets up some kind of link list or way to search for schools within iTunes.
