This week Mitel and Sun announced a global OEM agreement. One aspect of the announcement that we wouldn't want overlooked is Sun and Mitel have created a unified solution offering with Mitel’s contact center software on Sun Ray™ ultra-thin clients.

Sun and Mitel are planning the integration of the Sun Ray IP Phone Bundle. This solution allows for a single hot desk sign-on for both the Sun Ray thin client and the Mitel IP phone. The Mitel stand, portable to any Mitel set, has a Java CardTM technology slot to allow for Sun Ray and Mitel IP phone hot desking. This small footprint device delivers all of the traditional Sun Ray features with lower power consumption than a separate phone and thin client, delivered at an attractive price. The Sun Ray IP Phone Bundle is particularly well-suited for cost and security-sensitive environments such as contact centers, education, healthcare, service providers, and financial services. 

Today Verizon Wireless is telling the world about how Sun Ray thin clients running on the Solaris (TM) Operating System are helping them shave energy costs - and reduce associated carbon emmissions - at its wireless customer support centers.  The Sun Ray thin clients run on 4 watts of electricity - less than a common household lightbulb, and a fraction of the power drawn by typical PCs. By using  Sun Ray thin clients, Verizon Wireless reduced its total energy use at three customer support centers by 30 percent.

Sun's Dave Douglas, vice president of eco responsibility for Sun, notes "By adopting Sun Ray thin clients, Verizon Wireless has increased computing flexibility and decreased administration costs because software updates are done via the server. Add to that the remarkable energy savings of a thin client and you've got the perfect example of how the right computing solution can be good for the environment and the bottom line."

The awards were judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and members of the trade press. This set of established and prestigious awards is sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association, the producer of the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which is the world's largest consumer technology trade show. The contest is endorsed by the Industrial Designers Society of America.

The Sun Ray 270 delivers secure, interoperable desktop computing without the maintenance, upgrading, and operational costs of desktop computers. It is compact, eco-friendly, energy efficient (15 times more energy efficient than a typical PC), and has a significantly longer lifespan than a PC -- which means fewer parts ends up in a landfill. The Sun Ray also meets or exceeds the reduction of hazardous substances regulations including:

*RoHS - RoHS-6 compliant
