Earlier this week a company called Sentilla made an interesting announcement - a Java technology-based software platform for pervasive computing.
The Sentilla Software Suite lets users develop, deploy and manage
Java-based software applications on tiny (about the size of a quarter),
low-power microprocessors, which are embedded on devices. And then,
these devices can constantly communicate & share information with each
other.
Sentilla will also provide APIs to allow the pervasive applications to
integrate with existing middleware, SOA, and web services applications.
James Gosling commented on Sentilla in his blog & had this to say in the press release:
“Harnessing the billions of small computers and microprocessors
deployed pervasively across countless industry applications is the next
generation of computing. A common, standards-based software development
and deployment platform is the key to achieving market success.
Sentilla's software extends Java technology to these billions of
computers, allowing the millions of Java software developers a way to
create new, innovative industry applications. Millions of developers
writing applications for billions of computers connecting to the
network – that’s incredibly cool."
