Today marks the one-year anniversary of
the Sun/Intel strategic
alliance announced on Jan. 22, 2007. Over the past year, the
combination of brilliant engineering minds from both companies has
resulted in significant advances, both hardware and software. Check
it out:
- Solaris
Xeon performance optimizations and chip enablers, resulting in
increased performance and power management, better virtualization and
improved uptime
- Sun
Studio compiler optimizations for Xeon
- Performance optimizations for Java
- Code delivered into OpenSolaris to
enable Xeon-specific features such as virtualization, power
optimization and wireless support
- Sun
xVM Server being optimized for Intel Virtualization Technology
- Four new Xeon-based products: Sun
Fire X4150 and Sun
Fire X4450 rackmount servers, Sun
Blade X6250 server module, and Sun
Ultra 24 Workstation
- World record benchmarks on the Sun
Fire X4450 and Sun
Blade X6250 servers
Check out this page to learn how the Sun and Intel collaboration gives you more hardware and software options in the datacenter -- even if you're using Xeon-based servers from Dell, HP or IBM. And go here to see a video of Sun & Intel execs discussing the alliance of both companies and their technology.
Look for continued progress in year two of the Sun/Intel alliance, such as additional Sun systems based on Intel Xeon architecture, and further work to optimize/enhance Solaris and Java for Xeon.
