The Sun Java System Application Server was rated #2 in terms of
preference by GNU/Linux open source developers in the Fall 2006
Evans Data "Open Source Software/Linux Developers Survey." This
is a dramatic increase in preference for Sun's application server
which was #7 in last year's survey.

What changed?

Since the 2005 survey, Sun has finished and released its
application server as part of the GlassFish Open Source
Community which has resulted in hundreds of thousands of
downloads and widespread adoption. This has become such a
highly preferred application servers because it is based on
the commercial quality code donated by Sun to the community.
The #2 ranking was in response to the question: "Which
application server do you use MOST often with an Open Source
operating system?" The Evans Data survey consists of over 400
in-depth interviews with Linux developers and can be obtained
