Unlock Opportunity - this sums up the overarching theme of Sun Tech Days
in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The two-day developer conference, held for
the first time in Malaysia, gave over 1500 participants insight into
the latest technologies and tools from Sun. The conference highlighted
the key messages of how participation, sharing and collaboration can
help boost the local developer community.
James Gosling, Gan Boon San, Sun Malaysia’s Managing Director and YB Dato' Kong Cho Hathe Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation of Malaysia, hosted the event. The deputy minister's participation was a strong endorsement by the Malaysian government's support for the conference and the local tech development plan.
James Gosling kick-started the conference with a keynote address on the emergence of Web 2.0 technologies, coupled with continued movement towards how open source is providing unique opportunities for developers to innovate and create value on the network.
Another highlight of the event was when the Deputy Minister presented one lucky participant with a trip to San Francisco to attend the JavaOne conference. Instead of using conventional raffle methods, the winner was identified with a "key" under his seat.
