Oracle 10g Release 2 for Solaris x86 32 bit
At last, Oracle has released the 32 bit version of 10g Rel 2 for those like me who don't have an Athlon64 in their laptop. Just head over to Technet and you'll find it in the downloads section (for those who have never been before, it requires you to register, but it's free.):Posted at 11:30AM Sep 25, 2006 by oz in Databases |

Oracle selects Solaris
Hot off the press:http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/051115/sftu132.html?.v=24
Oracle is going to use Solaris x86 as it's prefered open source 64bit development environment so I presume there will be no more waiting around for the lastest versions to be available for Solaris x86.

Oracle 10g on Solaris10
Sorry for the long hiatus things have been very busy. Good to see that the official certifications for Solaris 10 now lists 9iR2 and 10gR1 (with 10gR2 to come.) For those who want all the details just check Metalink it's all listed there. That and the announcement about Sybase including support for x64, ie this probably means I need a bigger laptop :->Posted at 10:05AM May 17, 2005 by oz in Databases | Comments[1]

10G on Solaris x86
Well, I installed it on Sunday evening and everything worked as expected. I installed on Solaris10 which it isn't certified for (of course as Solaris10 isn't released) but everything appeared to work as expected. For anyone else who wants to try you need to use the parameter:
/cdrom/cdrom0/runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqsto make the installer ignore the fact you aren't installing on one of the supported Solaris versions (don't forget to set your "shmsys:shminfo_shmmax" parameter in /etc/system for the shared memory.

Oracle 10G for Solaris x86
It's finally arrived, it's available from OTN at:
http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/database/oracle10g/index.htmlNote, you need to register for OTN (Oracle Technology Network) if you haven't already, but don't worry it's free.
I hadn't been expecting it until August 16, but it seems they came up with the goods faster than expected. It's listed as a deveoper's release but it's the newer 10.1.0.3. I'll download and test it over the weekend (my wife will be so happy about that :->)
