Sweet! I didn't even know you can get Sybase for sx86. I work for the VOSJEC (Veritas Oracle Sun Joint Escalation Centre) - well something like that anyway (which is part of PTS). Looks like it's time to blow away JDS on Linux and get with the SX program ( I have it on my Sun W/S already). So anyhow - nice blog very useful. Cheers.

Hi,

Is anyone interested to see some results about Sybase ASE 12.5.2 on Solaris 10 x86 vs Solaris 9 U7 ? I know ASE is not supported yet on S10 but this is interesting... Looks like something is not okay with ASE under S10 ? The average time to create a master and sysprocs databases under S9 is around minutes but when trying this under S10 everything goes in hours :)

ASE: Developer's edition ver 12.5.2
System: Thinkpad T23
Memory: 768 MB
Disk: 1x25 GB IDE
Page size = 4 k
Databases
=========
master.dat: device size=60MB, database size=12MB
sysprocs.dat: device size=120MB, database size=120MB

Both databases are placed on UFS + FORCEDIRECTIO slice

Total time to install Sybase 12.5.2 (including configure 1 Adaptive Server )

solaris 9U7-x86 10b63-x86
3mins ~2hrs

I have tested as well placing the databases on UFS slice without forcedirectio but without success on S10. Somehow it looks like ASE does not work okay in S10. Any comments ?

Thanks
stefan
