Of course Chris will tell you he rarely has problems parking his bike but for car owners the car park is a place of considerable agro. I do not even have a big car but I find it almost impossible to navigate these places without fear of banging one of my nice alloy wheels on the concrete carbuncle we call a car park. The worst I visited in Reading recently is I think called Broad St. Well as you drive in the roadway is narrowed and at each side vicious concrete sides are ready to be clobbered by the unwary driver. The roadway as you try and find a space to park is also curved in a crazy way so if you do not have a half decent steering lock you have to keep reversing to get round the bend. Luckily the Golf has an excellent steering lock. I know space in these places is at a premium but the parking bays are pathetically small. The siting of the concrete pillars that hold the building up seems ill judged. Of course the big deal is the cost of parking. Clearly we should be using alternative public/park and ride etc transport but I sometimes think these places are a licence to print money. At least build these places properly and make them slightly attractive. ( Dec 08 2005, 12:00:01 AM PST ) Permalink Comments [0] |
