Stand by your Ham!

The British pig industry is in crisis . They are loosing twenty pounds on every pig they sell. The do not get or seek farm subsidies and the price of feed - based on wheat has doubled over the last year. In the UK the rules on how pigs are kept mean it is more expensive to keep them than in other parts of the world. Supermarket prices for pork although they have increased have not resulted in better prices for farmers. The net result is more of them are leaving the industry. The remainder are today marching on parliament to campaign for better prices for them to keep the UK pig farming industry alive. Meanwhile they have done there own version of the song "Stand by your man". You can hear it here
