Evening all...

After a nice couple of drinks down the local pub and then enjoying a glass of red wine at home the other night we both heard the loud knocking on our front door. The loudness of the knock should have alerted both of us to the fact the local Police were on our doorstep.

Before I say anything else let me reiterate I fully support the Police who do a good job in very difficult circumstances. I will also omit some of the details. Back to the story.

So I open the door and two Policemen are there. They are investigating an incident on behalf of the XYZ Police force and do I own a VW Golf black reg ABC 123? "Yes I do" I answer. "Have you been driving in the area of "XYZ" in the last one-two hours?" "No I have not" I reply. "Is the car currently in your possession?" "Yes it is in the garage" I say. "May we see the car?" I open the garage dor for them. The Police now want to see the front of the car. Now it gets tricky. The side door is blocked so they can't see the front of the car from there. I also tell them I am not prepared to drive the car even on my own property as I must be over the limit. So we go round the back and I start to try and shove the side door open so they can see the front of the car. Suddenly they back off. A call has come in over the radio. "We are done they say". The Police won't give many details away but it seems someone has 'copied' my number plate. Even more interesting is the fact they have bolted it onto a black VW Golf. Time to start keeping a very accurate diary of where I go with the car from now on...

Evening, Paul. Channelling Dixon of Dock Green, are we?

I should point out that Paul published this post on Sunday with no content. Clearly I'm not the only person that hangs on Paul's every word.

I had the same sequence many years ago, it normally transpires that someone in a similar car was doing something naughty. And the witness gets a partial number, colour and type of car. The Police in my experience, laid it on pretty heavily, and their leaving comment was, 'You did n't match the description anyway'. In the incident I was questioned about, they had 'E 25x' and black Astra, so they had quite a few to investigate. It's usually a serious incident that trigger the Police to go hunting in this manner.
