Classic TV. Of course the sad concidence is that not too long after Inspector Morse dies in the programme John Thaw passes away. In my opinion the TV series is better than the books by Colin Dexter but then I have a simple mind... The stories are based mostly in Oxford and I have even seen Morse's Jaguar parked by a college during filming ! The early stories are based upon the books but the later ones written as screenplays. The shots are clearly done before Oxford's perpetual traffic problem reaches its climax in the rush hour and Morse inexplicabley manages to find parking without a hitch on roads like Broad st, the High and so on. He has romantic interests which various parties but is never allowed a stable relationship - which is sad. The relationship between Morse and his Sergeant Lewis is excellent especially in the early shows. His boss also causes him problems in his belief that Morse spends far to long staring at the bottom of a beer glass perpetuately empty or waiting to be filled by another round cadged off Lewis AGAIN ! So all in all an excellent series a must watch. ( Oct 05 2004, 05:00:00 AM PDT ) PermalinkComments:
