Car accidents are related to drivers driving when they are tired. There is a new campaign to raise peoples awareness to this. More information can be found here. During a two hour driving spell you are meant to have at least one fifteen minute break. Those people who drive for work - like sales reps etc are more at risk. I have also known people drive long distances after a long haul flight - which is total madness. Also be careful when driving on an empty stomach, I am convinced that the last accident I was involved in (a two mile an hour ding) was almost entirely down to my reduced concentration due to lack of energy after not eating that morning.
It's interesting that the government website recommends caffeine. When I did my motorcycle training I was told to be aware that dosing up on caffeine to reduce tiredness can increase your aggression levels when driving. Potential leading to tailgating and generally impatient driving - often aggravating other road users.
