A Terminal disgrace the newspapers are calling it . From personal experience I can confirm BA are not very forthcoming in offering recompense for even expenses due to delays/problems on their flights. It seems even more of a disgrace that local hotels have upped their prices by 100% to cash in on other peoples misery. The only thing you can say is that although it is a national embarrassment other new terminals/airports have suffered similar fates in their opening days. What's most embarrassing is not that the luggage system failed. It's the photos of passengers in long queues sitting on their bags or the concrete floor complaining about lack of communication and insufficient staff.
I was at the T5 trials and I did comment that there were few seats in the departures area for passengers dealing with missed flights. I also commented that the ticket desk was small and very far from the check-in area and would be overwhelmed if a flight was canceled.
Any time anything went wrong with the trials they pulled the person out and didn't try to see how the system woul deal with the problem.
BA should have anticipated *something* going wrong and considered what it would look like if there was nowhere for those passengers to wait and nobody with answers to help them. They seem to have only cared how things would go if everything worked properly.

Fwiw you comment authenticator has a problem with basic arithmetic. I'm pretty sure 0 + 51 is 51.
