White vans victim or villain ? I thought I would test my own impression that the majority of vehicles who cut me up on the road are white vans . So last week I reset the counters and was methodical in my data gathering. I decided that other folks might be cutting me up but the fact they do not poke me in the proverbial eye with a bright white colour I do not register the outrage. So here we go: Monday AM, red lorry crashed through lights across my path in Binfield, In Camberley a red car decided he wanted to swap lanes with me on the roundabout without my cooperation. Clearly a 'red' day on Monday. Monday PM, Mitsi Evo VIII in front of me did not have its lights on in the 'dusk' period. Failed to stop at zebra crossing. Also deserves a mention with such a silly rear wing and large diameter exhaust. Both must make a difference to the performance of the car. Tuesday AM, No problems ! Tuesday PM, No problems ! Wednesday AM, Red van ahead of me neither brake light worked, a VW Golf car overtook myself and a learner driver as we approached the crest of a hill. Wednesday PM, VW Jetta ran the red light, Ford Escort decided not to give way on two roundabouts. Thursday AM, Mercedez decided not to wait for me to overtake another vehicle om a dual carriagway and cut in front of me to do so first. Thursday PM, No problems ! Friday AM, No problems ! Friday PM, No problems ! I did not record vehicles that did minor bad things on the road, or who caused altercations with other vehicles. This was very much in evidence. There were countless people in the dark with no lights on. Clearly the white vans were on good behaviour last week. So maybe the white van is the victim not the villian. The other observation I would make is that the beginning of the week there were more incidents than at the end. By the way the UK driving test is seventy years old today ( Mar 16 2005, 12:00:59 AM PST ) Permalink Comments [1]
