First post. Hello world. Γειά σας κόσμε. Bonjour à tous.
The typical (n)etiquette/template for a first blog entry is generally an
introduction and a short bit of background. I'm Brent Paulson and I work
in the Solaris Sustaining and Engineering group for Sun Microsystems, Inc.
I'm part of the Security Engineering and Coordination group which means
that we have a variety of roles such as:
- Working on fixes, primarily for issues found by customers, in
security related technologies in Solaris such as Solaris Auditing, RBAC, PAM, the Solaris Security Toolkit (SST aka JASS), and Kerberos.
- Tracking and coordinating all security vulnerabilities in Sun products
and making sure they are addressed in all supported and affected
releases and a Sun Alert is published for the issue.
- Acting as the interface between Sun and everyone else with regards to
security problems with Sun software. This aspect of our
responsibility is described
here on SunSolve. We also manage the security-alert@sun.com
alias as stated on the aforementioned SunSolve page.
I am based in
London (UK) and I
work with a worldwide team including
Chandan who was previously based
in Bangalore, India but is now based out of Menlo Park, CA and
Derrick who is the team's manager
and is also based in Menlo Park.
Out of the list of security technologies we sustain if the number of issues
I've worked on were broken down by product, the largest percentage would
definitely involve Solaris Auditing. Thus I plan to detail some of those
fixes in the future once OpenSolaris is out and will likely post answers
to various Solaris Auditing queries I've doled out in the past or to any I
receive here or spot elsewhere.
