Tech demo on OpenSolaris at Oxford Brookes University

I have invited Clive to visit Oxford again to talk about OpenSolaris. This time is going be in Oxford Brookes University. Here is the schedule for this event

Time: 9am, Tuesday March 31st.
Place: Oxford Brookes University

Speaker: Dr. Clive King

Title: Complexity and the systems administrator.

Abstract: Systems Administrators today deal with hugely complex systems. The most complex part and the part of the system most probable to break is wobbleware, the people involved. The speaker reflects on both his time as a Systems Administrator and 12 years troubleshooter for Sun and Cray who has solved problems for customer who's systems include the management of trillions of dollars, they can't tell you what it does without offering to shoot you, modeling the start of the universe and letting you buy things you don't need when you are drunk. Some key technical and behavioural themes arise from the mess which should guide the thinking process of a systems administrator. We demonstrate technology which Solaris provides to address some of the themes.

Tech demo on OpenSolaris

Last Wednesday Clive King came to Oxford to give a tech demo on OpenSolaris/DTrace. This was jointly organised with the Computer Society at University of Oxford and it was a good turnout for a first tech demo. Below are two photos from the event and here are some of the photos from the tech demo, both taken by Adam Obeng.

 My tentative plan is to organise another tech demo this month (around 25th) on MySQL. Watch this space...
