It is getting close that wonderful time of year at Sun, we have the week between Christmas and New year's off - so its a week of family time - at the Lamere household we spend a good deal of that time playing games - board games and card games - no electricity required.  We have lots of favorites: Carcassonne, Settlers of Catan, Attack of the Killer Rabits,  Citadels, Apples to Apples, Ticket to Ride, Elfin Land.

I'm starting to cast about for this year's holiday week game - it has to allow for 3 to 5 players - be suitable for ages 12 and up and fun - so I'm open to any suggestions.

Comments:

Kill Doctor Lucky, from Cheapass Games, is a lot of fun. I haven't played any other Cheapass offerings, but I've heard a lot of good things about their games. The general idea behind Cheapass is they give you just what you need to play the game, saving you the cost of the items which are common to many games and you probably already have around the house (e.g. pawns, money, dice).

If you want to spend more money, it seems that someone (the aptly named "Titanic Games") bought the rights to make a higher-polish version of the game. Personally, I'd buy the original and put the extra $25+ towards trying more games :)

Have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puerto_Rico_%28game%29. Offers a lot of different strategies to win (and there is no dice which is always a good sign). A great (nerdy) game ;)

Mighta known you'd be a fellow Catan fan. Great game. Give Set a try if you haven't.
