performance comparison: NetBSD vs FreeBSD

gregory mcgarry did a performance comparison between NetBSD 2.0 and FreeBSD 5.3. the paper is here. the benchmarks test core os functionality, scalability and thread implementation. very impressive: looks like netbsd is going far and fast. [i actively use both, but netbsd has been running my core mail/web server and in my voyagers and aging vaio for a long time...]

Ozan, Just curious. Why not Solaris for your own servers ? Would be interesting to see how Solaris 10 would compare with the same benchmarks

when i first installed the mail/web server, it was on a sparc10, netbsd ran faster and the software i needed either came with it, or built and installed trivially. (this was before the freeware cd) when i later re-installed it on a 300mhz pc, solaris x86 was no longer a product.

if i have to redo it, i may think about using s10/x86...
