In my experience there are two types of writer: those who do it as a way of working out what they feel, and those who do it as a way of communicating with other people.

Good quotes. Does he elaborate on any of them anywhere? I'm specifically interested in any thoughts he has on preventing bureaucratic self-propagation, and on the two types of writers.

charlie has been a prolific contributor on usenet; if you go through his postings (there is a large body of tem :) you will find more about his thinking on this and other topics. he is a lot of fun to read...
