What is SIP ?
Session Initiation Protocol(SIP).
SIP supports five facets of establishing and terminating multimedia communications:
a. User location: determination of the end system to be used for communication;
b. User capabilities: determination of the media and media parameters to be used for the session;
c. User availability: determination of the willingness of the called party to engage in communications;
d. Call set-up: "ringing", establishment of call parameters at both the called and calling parties;
e. Call handling: including transfer and termination of calls.
