End of HD-DVD... Can now clearly see a blue ray at the end of the tunnel

The brighter side is its a win for Java enthusiasts.  Yes, BR technology includes java in it. Too bad, Toshiba didnt include java in their machine.

I feel happy that I chose to buy a blue-ray player a little while ago.  I feel relieved that that I can now expect to see all my favorite movies to be lined up in BR.

Its unfortunate for thousands of people who went for HD player considering how cheap they were.  I am sure they knew what they were getting into. I wish Toshiba had offered some kind of compensation for those folks.

It is interesting and indeed a good thing for consumers that this format war is over.  While consumer confidence is so low and the global economy is fearing recession (certainly not China and India), it is no good for anyone to sustain this war.  I think it is a smarter move from Toshiba to abandon the ship.  They saved themselves a whole lot of money that they would have lost over several years. Betamax Vs VHS war went on for 10+ years.  Its a big jolt for speculators who were hoping for the same length of war.

Seems like Sony learnt a lot from its Betamax support failure.  Now here is the new winner who was a big loser in the past.

Anyways... I am happy that I made the right decision to back BR :)
