Using separate .dbg files with dbx

Ivan asked a good question in the dbx forums recently, and I gave him a short report on the current status.

The executive summary is that gcc/gdb support putting debugging information into separate files (by using objcopy). Sun Studio doesn't support this yet, but it doesn't seem that hard. I filed an RFE. The bugid is 6375972 for those of you inside Sun.
