The latest Nevada/dbx bug Now that more and more people are using prerelease versions of Solaris, the whole world is finding out what the dbx team has known for a long time. That is: Dbx has some pretty intricate and subtle dependencies on the OS. This showed up in a couple of bugs about a year ago that we still get reports on every now and then. It showed up again more recently with bug number 6477975. Solaris added a new proc service callback function, and it caused a randomized memory access in dbx, resulting in frequent crashes. There is a workaround involving LD_PRELOAD in the bug description that I linked to above. The dbx sustaining team is working on a patch, and I'll update this blog entry when it's available. Needless to say, I'm also working on trying to bump up the level of testing we do on Nevada releases.
