Sun Studio Express 3 -- bad tarballs Be careful with the Sun Studio Express 3 tarballs, they accidentally included files in /var!  This happens on both Solaris and Linux. Those will clobber  important files unless you wait for new tarballs or work around the problem. Double check by using "gtar tfj FILE | grep /var" or something similar.  The new tarballs are working their way towards the download site. (Swimming through a sea of red tape).  To work around this, instead of untarring in /, just untar in /stage and move /stage/opt/sun to /opt/sun. (The move step will be slightly different depending on which directories you already have in /opt.)

Update: Jan 16, 12:46 : The good news is the bad tarball doesn't seem to be available anymore, I expect the new one to be in place momentarily.

Update: Jan 17th, 8:46 PM : Still waiting...

Update: Jan 19th, 12:03 PM : Yay!  It's back!
