Chris's page-o-links

Here is a list of links and blog feeds that I think are useful for Sun Studio and dbx users. Check the bottom of the list for notes about the implementation, and credits for the pieces I stole.

I know enough about HTML to realize there is no possible way to arrange two columns of variable length entries in a layout that doesn't suck. If you have any formatting ideas for how to arrange these blocks in a more readable way, drop me a note. I thought something looked strange about this page when I was done, but I just realized that's because I don't have any cutesy little Sun logos, or gratuitous pictures or graphics. How un-web-like. ;-)

I wanted to be able to post links and short notes to a formatted page that was on my blog site. But I didn't want to use Roller to edit the page ove and over. So I leveraged del.icio.us and use that web site to store the configuration information for this page. One column shows a set of blogs.sun.com feeds that are specified using delicious tags. The other column shows a set of delicious keyword lists that are also specified by a keyword in delicious. It's a little over-meta-ized I know, but it should let me to add new data sources without needing to edit the HTML for this page. You can see the two lists of data feeds by looking at my list of sun blogs and my list of deli keyword links.

I stole bits of this Javascript from a Greasemonkey script called RSS Panel. I also use jsr_class.js which comes from Jason Levitt. The jsr_class.js script uses a concept of "dynamic script tags", which is a little funky, but gets the job done.
