Jen Crosby's Racing BlogBlogging my first race season.... |
|
The trackday went brilliantly! I was, as expected, incredibly nervous before I went out, but with the sighting laps under my belt I felt just great. My bike was running perfectly (thanks Andy!) and I got back on as if nothing had ever happened. I had my knee down within a couple of sessions, and felt great on the bike. Admittedly, I was plenty slower than when I last rode, but I wasn't pushing at all as the intention was to just get used to being on the bike again. I did the morning sessions, but by the end of the last one my back was starting to get very painful. It was ok while riding, but as soon as I stepped off the bike I could barely walk! I took some painkillers, but in the end did very few laps in the afternoon, not wanting to push, and being happy with the work I'd done already. I came away grinning, so excited that I can still ride the thing! I was so petrified that I'd get back onto the bike and hate it, be too scared to ride and just not be able to do anything. It would break my heart to hate something I've been so passionate about for so long - saying it like that makes it sound a bit ridiculous that that fear would even be a factor, but that's how it felt. But thankfully it just wasn't the case - I loved being back on my bike again! So much so that I've put in an entry for the racing at Brands this coming weekend... ;oP Massive thanks to Toby and Nick who helped me loads to get the bike ready very late the night before, and were incredibly supportive all day. Thanks guys! ( Sep 24 2007, 01:07:45 PM GMT+00:00 )Permalink Comments [2]Post a Comment: Comments are closed for this entry. |

Woo hoo! I get to leave the first comment congratulating you on your return to the track! Well done - what a saga. Here's to many more chapters... though hopefully less painful ones!

Congrats! I'm glad that you were able to get back on that proverbial horse. I have ::knock on wood:: never been in a severe racing-related accident, but I can tell you that a street related accident and the fear of speed that resulted is what fueled me to become a drag racer. I've only had one minor incident with the guardrail in 10 years, and though it happened at 140mph and should have terrified me, the very next race I set a new personal best. It actually helped qwell my fear that I would not be able to handle something going wrong, and gave me confidence. As backwards as that sounds! Congrats again! I enjoy reading your posts!
