Gordon Brown seems to be going to some lengths to avoid inviting the Dalai Lama to Downing Street while he's in the UK. His Holiness will address both houses of parliament, and can meet the Prime Minister at the more 'spiritual' venue of Lambeth Palace (residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury), but can't come to Number 10. Strange, when you remember how eager Mr Brown was to appear in front of Number 10 with that other contentious icon, the Olympic torch.
