A Peek into Solaris Sustaining engineer's life...Thoughts of an engineer(Raja Gopal Andra) working on two worlds Bubba was bragging to his boss one day, "You know, I know everyone there is to know. Just name someone, anyone, and I know him. "Tired of his boasting, his boss called his bluff, "OK, Bubba how about Tom Cruise?" "Sure, yes, Tom and I are old friends, and I can prove it." So Bubba and his boss fly out to Hollywood and knock on Tom Cruise's door, and sure enough, Tom Cruise, shouts, "Bubba! Great to see you! You and your friend come right in and join me for lunch!" Although impressed, Bubba's boss is still sceptical. After they leave Cruise's house, he tells Bubba that he thinks Bubba's knowing Cruise was just lucky. "No, no, just name anyone else," Bubba says. "President Clinton," his boss quickly retorts. "Yes," Bubba says, "I know him, let's fly out to Washington." And off they go. At the White House, Clinton spots Bubba on the tour and motions him and his boss over, saying, "Bubba, what a surprise, I was just on my way to a meeting, but you and your friend come on in and let's have a cup of coffee first and catch up." Well, the boss is very shaken by now, but still not totally convinced. After they leave the White house grounds, he expresses his doubts to Bubba, who again implores him to name anyone else. "The Pope," his boss replies. "Sure!" says Bubba. "My folks are from Poland, and I've known the Pope along time." So off they fly to Rome. Bubba and his boss are assembled with the masses in Vatican Square when Bubba says, "This will never work. I can't catch the Pope's eye among all these people. Tell you what, I know all the guards so let me just go upstairs and I'll come out on the balcony with the Pope." And he disappears into the crowd headed toward the Vatican. Sure enough, half an hour later Bubba emerges with the Pope on the balcony. But by the time Bubba returns, he finds that his boss has had a heart attack and is surrounded by paramedics. Working his way to his boss' side, Bubba asks him, What happened?" His boss looks up and says, I was doing fine until you and the Pope came out on the balcony and the man next to me said, "Who's that on the balcony with Bubba?"(2005-05-25 20:42:23.0) Permalink Comments [0] Bollywood Berkeley! I was driving along with a colleague from Mountain view to
Sunnyvale on our way to Toysrus today evening. The driver
in the left lane cut us sharply and entered our lane. Then
he breaked as the car infront of that one cut this guy and
took a right turn! I had to slow down significantly to avoid
the accident! Then we discussed about the choices we had:
1. Honk and shout at the other guy and inadvertently feel
bad.
2. Take it easy, laugh at him and move on! Make your day!
No guesses on what option I picked. :-)
I believe in the world of choices and similarly Sun is trying
aggressively to make this happen in IT world. Sun strives hard
to maintain open standards and also provides customers a choice
on what they can choose.

Cricket! Australia is touring India and second test is currently in action. Till lunch time, Austalian openers did a very good job and run rate was more then 4. Then Indian bowlers strike backed :-) Especially Kumble was pretty impressive taking 7 wickets. Now the onus is on Indian batsmen to execute and put up a big score! Details can be found at Wisden CricInfo site. (2004-10-14 07:58:01.0) Permalink Comments [1] Couple of our colleagues from India are here and we went around to do some shopping at Gilroy. We started off in Fremont after lunch at Shalimar restaurant around 1:30 pm. Gilroy was around 1 hr drive (around 12 miles on I880 and 40 miles on 101). One friend wanted to buy shoes, so we went around almost all the shoe shops there like Nike, Adidas, Reebok and couple of others. Adidas shoes were good, but expensive. Reebok shoes were the ones which we liked and with the offer they had, they were coming around for 30 bucks. While we were there, we did some other shopping at van huesen and window-shopping at other stores. The Bose showroom was impressive and audio headphones were pretty effective - cost was little bit high though. Philips 50" Plasma TV was good - don't ask the price :-) One shocking thing that happened during the trip was that when we were driving on 101 to Gilroy, we suddenly saw one car going at more then 110 mph and was doing cuts and disappeared in couple of seconds. It was like watching a video game... Not sure what exactly that driver was trying to achieve by going at that speed...(2004-10-11 22:47:43.0) Permalink Comments [2] I am an engineer in Solaris Sustaining and Engineering group working on NFS & Naming products.
