Roy sends an interesting read on a bowling ball mortar. Its as primitive as it gets (short of the supposedly sensitive welding job required to get the two-inch-thick breechblock on without creating brittleness in the material), but is capable of hurling 10lb balls further than you can see.
I wonder what the result would be of a brainstorming session between bowling ball mortar guy and trebuchet piano guy? Throw in some homebrew and small arms and you've got the makings of a tasty outing!
