After getting into a heated discussion with Mr. Watt this morning on the reasons people risk life and limb to climb mountains, I decided to try some Google searches to support my perspective.

Results 1 - 10 of about 24,100 for "mountain climbing" AND hero.

Results 1 - 10 of about 8,010 for "mountain climbing" AND fool.

Three to one. What's that say about society?

Comments:

It means that people don't know a real hero when they see one. Except for a few pioneers, today the only reason for climbing mountains is for some sort of personal satisfaction. That doesn't make you a hero.

But a hero is someone you look up to. If you climb a mountain, people have to look up to see you, so you're a hero. Unless they're in a plane, then they're the hero and you're some poor slob on a mountain.

That's just nit picking, isn't it?

It was actually meant to be sardonic wit in the style of a famous Saturday Night Live alumnus, but I guess I failed.
