It seems a spoke too soon while praising the Logitech MX mouse. I finally gave it a try on the new Macbook, but couldn't get it to work. Here's my email to Logitech, and their lame reply:
I'm running a brand new Macbook Pro, and just got a new MX Revolution. I downloaded the latest Control Center from your website, and fully charged the mouse. When I connect the USB dongle, the control center registers the mouse as a device, but I can't control it. I've tried rebooting, and re-inserting the USB dongle on various USB ports- no luck.
I see this is a known problem: http://forums.logitech.com/logitech/board/message?board.id=hardware_mice&message.id=795
I then downloaded the latest LCC Connection Utility for OSX, and followed the instructions: http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/logitech_en_amr.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=5652
I've also verified that OSX detects the mouse as a Logitech mouse under USB devices.
What else is there? And *please* put a reset button on all of your cordless mice going forward.
And the reply (it was within 24 hours, so I'll give em that):
Dear Rama,
Thank you for contacting Logitech Online Support, my name is Sukarno and I will be assisting you today in you issue.
Rama, based on what I understand in your email, it seems that your MX Revolution Mouse is not working in your Mac system. If my understanding on the issue is not correct do let me know Rama.
In regards to what you are encountering, I can conclude that you have tried connecting the device using all available port in your system and also you have tried installing a new LCC with the LCC connect utility however the mouse still fails to operate.
At this stage Rama, I would like you to test the device using a Windows computer, making sure the receiver is connected directly into the system, and also please make sure that the device is switched On from the power switch at the bottom of the Mouse.
Please write back to me with your findings and should the issue still persist, I be more than happy to assist you on your product warranty replacement.
Thank you for using Logitech have a great day ahead Rama.
A Windows computer? Does Logitech really expect all Mac owners to have a Windows "lifeline" to resurrect their mice??
I suppose I'll try it later this afternoon on a friend's Windows machine, just for the sake of completeness. Logitech- I'm not sure if I'll be happier if that fixes it or not. Either way, you've got to get your OSX act together before claiming OSX "support".
UPDATE: Update: I installed the Windows version of the software, did the pat-your-head-rub-your-tummy dance (the reset is really: "hold the left mouse button, turn the power on/off, tap the right mouse button five times, release the left mouse button then click here."), and it started working. So Logitech isn't totally clueless, they just don't know anything but Windows. Swell.

I had to do the same thing to get mine working in Linux, though I didn't even use the same computer for the sync. (I also didn't bother to contact them.) I guess they use some kind of serial number in the receiver and/or mouse, but don't match them, so you have to match them with the finger-dance. Mine wouldn't even show a full charge until I'd done the sync, which was perplexing. (It's been six hours, and not even one bar?!)
