The following press release says it all:

Sun today announces comprehensive, enterprise-class support and indemnification for OpenSSO, the open source code-base from which Sun Access Manager is derived. And Sun is making its Sun Access Manager offering even more attractive to enterprises by extending support to also include OpenSSO Express, early access versions of the next Access Manager release that have been fully tested and certified by the OpenSSO community.

I think this will particularly find its sweet spot with the early adopters and early majority kinds of security deployments. For more traditional enterprises this is an excellent opportunity to shake out the solution much earlier in the development and planning cycle, that would be impossible with any other competitive product.
Looking forward to very interesting times ahead as we see this significant milestone gets adopted in the market !

Thanks to Marina Sum for a great Q&A session on Virtual Federation as part of the "From the Trenches at Sun Identity" series. Read about it here
Its amazing how a very simple concept goes a long way in removing barriers in adopting Federation technologies.
FAM Sr. Product Manager Daniel Raskin has already been blogging about it and several other cool features being added to OpenSSO and the upcoming FAM 8.0 release. Will be posting some howtos in upcoming blogs.

Sun's Training Team has put together an excellent course on Federation : Federation Boot Camp. Its quite comprehensive starting with basic concepts to hands on labs for the cool "a-ha!" experience.
The best part is that its not a dull protocols and xml exercise - its designed around real customer use cases and actually helps you decide which of the several possible deployments are most applicable for your particular situation.
And ofcourse its all based on what I do in my day job : SJS Access Manager and Federation Manager. Please feel free to request enrollment for the next session and for more info : fm-bootcamp AT sun dot com.
