• A New Docs Community Is Born

Looks like we've started a documentation community within OpenMPI!

There seems to be enough interest in collaborating on a documentation set for the open source version of MPI-2 and beyond that we're taking some initial steps, like creating our own mailing list. And, no doubt, there'll be a wiki in our future.

It's great to see such instant response to a naive question like "Where's the docs?".

But we can mark today, Sept 13, 2007, as the start of the OpenMPI docs project. (Cue the trumpets!)

Why to wait with a wiki when you can have it immediately at http://wikis.sun.com ?

Sure. I already have one or two of those. But this is not a Sun project. It's an open source project and as such should be hosted in neutral territory.

But wikis are great for collaborative projects like this one.

Creating a wiki at this point would be a bit premature. We first have to find out who's in the community and set up some ground rules. And for that we now have a mailing list, which should show up on the open-mpi.org website tomorrow.
