OpenSolaris 開発プロセス (OpenSolaris Development Process)
OpenSolaris のコミュニティーによる翻訳第二号が完成間近です。
KHirano さん、ありがとうございます! 現在、翻訳とメーリングリストでのメールベースの査読が終わった状態ですが、メールで細切れに内容がポストされていたので、全体を通して見るのは私も初めてです。せっかくなので、新たな気持ちで「翻訳」というより「ドキュメント」として読んでみたいと思います。
え? どう違うのかって? ... それは... 「日本語」「英語」「日本語」「英語」と視線を行き来してチェックするのではなく、「ふむふむ、へええ、それで?」と読み進むことです。日本語ではどういうのかわかりませんが、社内ではそれぞれを英語で Linguistic Review と Proof Reading と呼んでいます。
Linguistic Review では、原文の意味が適切に訳出されているかを確認し、Proof Reading では読みやすい内容になっているかを中心に、読んでいきます。
不思議なもので、翻訳者が意味を理解していないと、「読みにくい」文章になってしまいます。だから内容をわかっている人が Proof Reading するだけでも、大きな問題は見つけられます。でも、とても読みやすいけれども間違っている翻訳、っていうのもあるので、油断はできません。
おっとこれは今回のテーマからは離れていますね。そう、今日は、みなさん読んでください、そしてコメント送ってください！と言いたかったのでした。コメントはメーリングリストでも私宛 reiko(dot)saito(at)sun(dot)com でもかまいません。よろしくお願いします。

The second contribution by OpenSolaris community is now close to the completion! The translation of OpenSolaris Development Process is posted to Japanese Portal and open for the comments.
Thank you very much, Khirano san! So far we have been reviewing the translation chunk by chunk on email basis on Mailing List. It is the first time that whole contents are viewable at a glance. I will try to read them as a document, instead of the translation.
Now, what is the difference between reading as a document and translation ? For me, reading as the translation means reading side by side, switch focus from English to translation, translation to English.... very busy..., but reading like a document is more fun to me. Sitting back, grabbing a cup of coffee, and read from the top to the end enjoying the contents.
I do not know what to say in Japanese (it's strange! I am Japanese!), but we call it Linguistic Review and Proof Reading.
Some of you already know the translation tend to be awkward when the translator does not fully understand the meaning. In that sense, Proof Reading can detect the serious problem if the reader knows what it is talking about. However, we should be careful since some are very good at creating the new meaning based on what they do not understand.
