すごいね ! (Kudos to you ! )
昨日の日記に「Praise と Kudos はどう違うの?」と書きました。Kudos って [k(y)u:dos](クゥドース)と発音するらしいのですが、実際には聞いたことがないので、どういうときに使うのだろうと思ったのです。
そしたらなんと... 昨夜、見たドラマ「ミディアム」で出てきたんです！主人公 (女性) が夫と友人夫妻とレストランで食事しているときに、夫が主人公のことを「彼女はこないだの (有名な) 裁判に関わったんだよ」と言ったところ、「えっ、あの裁判に ?」「すごいわ!」「ほんと、すごいわね!」と友人が口々に言っていました。その言葉が「Kudos to you!」「Yes, kudos to you!」だったのです。
びっくりして巻き戻して英語字幕にして、何度も何度も見ました。そうかー、こう使うのかー。私だったら「That's great!」しか言えないなぁ... でもいつかトライしてみよう。
しかし、昨日ブログで「Kudos ってどう使うのかな」と思わなければ、聞き流していた台詞です。すごい偶然。きっと何故って思ったから、私のアンテナがキャッチできたのね。これからも、いろんなことに興味持っておもしろがっていこうと思います。
ところで、昨日から見始めた「ミディアム」は、わりと面白いです。サイキックなんだけど、普通の女性でもあり、二人の子供を持つ主婦でもあるの。もちろんフィクションなんだけど、その役柄が人間らしくていい感じでした。主人公のアリソンはパトリシアアークエットが演じているのです。彼女のことは「トゥルーロマンス」で知って、「ニキータ」のアンヌ・パリローみたいでかっこいいなと思ったのを覚えています。その後、ぱっとしなかったのですが、このドラマで復活したそうです。「ミディアム」は、まだまだ続くので、これからが楽しみです〜。うふふ。

I asked in my blog yesterday "What is the difference between Praise and Kudos ?" "How do you use "Kudos""? I know Kudos is pronounced [k(y)u:dos] but have not heard it is said in the conversation, and wondered in which occasion and in which way it is used.
Then, surprisingly, I heard it was said on American TV drama "Medium" in the same day. Last night, I watched "Medium" Episode 2. The main character Alison was having dinner with her husband and friends at the restaurant. Her husband introduced her job and said "she is involved in that (famous) trial." Then, the friends surprised and praised her by saying "Really? That's trial ?" "Kudos to you!" "Yes, kudos to you!".
What a happy surprise for me! I have never expected to learn how to use it on DVD in the same day I wondered... I think I could catch this conversation because I had that question in mind. It's so happy and enjoyable to keep such curiosity. I will be more curious to get more answers ...
By the way, I found American TV drama "Medium" great. I enjoy her life, Alison, as a woman, a wife, a mother, and a psychic. I know it is just a n imaginary story, but I like such a story that I feel more humanity. Alison is acted by Patricia Arquette. I knew her by the movie "True Romance" with Christian Slater, and liked her a lot feeling some resemblance with Anne Parillaud in Nikita. Patricia has not been in the scene after that for a while, but now is back with Medium to TV world. I'm so happy now because more stories of Medium are waiting for me!
