Firefox 3.0 Releaes Party
I've been to Firefox 3.0 release party yesterday. Jim forwarded me the invitation and I was so happy to accept that. It was in Takanawa Price Hotel from 6:30 - 8:30pm. There are more than 200 people, I guess, in a room and Ms. Satoko Takita was presenting Firefox 3.0.
I liked the catchphrase "This release of Firefox is Super Fast!". We would say Firefox is very fast and comfortable, but I was impressed and found fun to see Firefox staff in PV answering the question of "What do you like the best for Firefox 3.0 ?". He said "I like it because it runs with less memory". Very cool. I like the way he described it from engineering point of view. I felt he is proud of contributing its development. That's what I want to feel always with my products, too.
In addition to the interview with developers, they ran a series of PVs. The woman on the same table with me let me know they are the winners of the competition of PVs. Some of them are clay movies, like Wallace and Gromit, and very cute. The best part was, however, the visual program casted on the wall showing the real-time downloading over the country. Once Firefox 3.0 is downloaded in one prefecture in Japan, that prefecture in a map will be sparkled with stars with fantastic sound like a hand bell. Entire color is deep blue and reminds me of planetarium. It is exciting to see when and where Firefox 3.0 is being downloaded. I wondered what he or she is doing and thinking now while downloading... it's like a small movie with lot of imagination.
I met many people and enjoyed talking to them - Firefox, Mozilla, OpenOffice, OpenSolaris ... it was so nice to see and talk in person. Now I can see their faces when communicating with them by email.
The food and drink was so nice and it was a pity that I could not have them enough because I was too busy with walking and talking in the room. Let me thank you to Firefox project - Congratulation to 3.0 release, and thank you very much for such a wonderful opportunity to meet wonderful people!

昨日は Firefox 3.0 リリースパーティーに行ってきました。Jim が紹介してくれて、招待状も転送してくれたので、喜んでご招待にあずかったのでした。場所は 6:30 - 8:30pm で高輪プリンスでした。大きな部屋に、たぶん 200 名以上の人たちが集まっていたと思う。Mozilla Japan の瀧田さんが Firefox 3.0 の紹介をしていらっしゃいました。
「今度の Firefox は爆速だぜ」っていうキャッチフレーズ、かっこいいですわー。でももうひとつ、かっこいいと思ったのは、若いエンジニアらしき人が「Firefox 3.0 のどこが好きですか?」というインタビューに答えて、「少ないメモリーで動くことかな」と言っていたこと! ユーザー側からすれば「はやっ!」ということだけど、作っている側からすると、そういうことだよね。その言葉に、エンジニアとして開発したんだぜっていう誇りを感じたんですよ。かっこいいです。わたしも、かくありたい。
開発者へのインタビューのほかにも、各種の PV が放映されていました。同じテーブルにいらした女性の方が、あれはみな、コンペを勝ち抜いた傑作なんですよ、と教えてくれました。彼女の会社がそのコンペを行なったそうです。いくつかは、クレイ映画風 (「ウォレスとグルミット」みたいな) でとても可愛かった。でも一番印象的だったのは、壁に大きく投影された、日本地図をモチーフにしたプログラム！日本全国の各県で、ダウンロードがあったらリアルタイムで表示するっていうものなんですが、そのマークが大きくスパークする星のイメージで、音もハンドベルみたいな澄んだ音で、幻想的なんですよね〜。プラネタリウムを彷彿とさせる夜のイメージで、ロマンティックでした... 今頃 Firefox 3.0 をダウンロードしている青森のこの人は、どんな人で、何を考えて、どう夜を過ごしているのかなぁ... なんて想像してしまいました。小さな映画を見ているみたい。
Firefix、Mozilla、OpenOffice、OpenSolaris... いろんなコミュニティーの方々に出会えておしゃべりできて、楽しかったです。これから、その方たちとメールするときはお顔が思い浮かぶので楽しさアップですわ。うふふ。
お食事も飲み物もとてもおいしくて素晴らしかった...(おしゃべりに忙しくてじっくり楽しむ時間はなかったけど... )。Firefox のみなさん、どうもありがとうございます。そして、Firefox 3.0 リリースおめでとうございます!

This is the invitation to the review of OpenSolaris 2008.05 Release Notes and Getting Started Guide. Now Release Notes translated for the following 8 languages are available: Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese. We usually review the documents translated our contracted translation vendors as QA, but this time, we need your help.

I want to communicate with users, developers, and anybody who is interested in either translation itself or OpenSolaris. I want to listen to your voice, want to know what you care and want. This is a great chance to know each other and improve the quality.
What do you think is the good quality ? Quality does not stand itself but always is valued in balance of other factors, such as speed, cost, preference... I want to explore what is Quality after all for OpenSolaris documents. So, let's work together.
My peers, 8 Language Leads, will be your contact person for your language. I am working with them closely and know they are passionate and trusted partners. As in the instructions, they will send announcement to your g11n-
Japanese is still waiting for translators. If you are interested, please let me know. I know the volume is too big for the pilot project... then, how about sharing the translation of Release Notes with several people ? I am happy to join the translation as a member. Let me wait for a few more days.

ユーザー、開発者に限らず、OpenSolaris か翻訳について興味を持っている方とコミュニケーションできると嬉しいです。どんなことが知りたいですか、OpenSolaris/翻訳をどう思っていますか、どうしたら面白くなりそうですか ? 率直に意見を交換してお互いに知ることは、品質を向上させることにつながると思います。
ところで、「品質がいい」ってどういうことですか ? わたしは、品質は一つだけで語られるものではなく、その他の要素、たとえば、スピード、費用、個人の好みとのバランスで決まるものだと思っています。OpenSolaris のドキュメントの品質は、どのあたりを目指すべきでしょう ? そういったことを、一緒に探ってみませんか ?
